Pro Autel MK908 Pro II is a professional-grade automotive diagnostic scanner built for independent workshops, key-coding specialists, and remap shops. It carries the same diagnostic and coding hardware as the Autel MaxiSYS MS908S Pro II Elite II — without the IP (Intelligent Programming) module, which is why FairTools can land it in New Zealand at NZ$3,459 instead of the MS908S Pro II's import price.

If you need J2534 pass-thru reprogramming, OE-level coding across 150 vehicle makes, key programming with IMMO support, and active component tests on a single 10.1″ Android tablet, this is the Autel unit built for that workflow.

Available to order from FairTools NZ — contact us for current ETA. Free overnight shipping to NZ main centres, 12-month warranty, NZ-based phone support.

What the MK908 Pro II actually does

  • J2534 pass-thru reprogramming — flash factory ECU updates from manufacturer subscription portals (Toyota TIS, Subaru STIS, GM SPS2, Ford IDS, Honda i-HDS, etc.) using the MaxiFlash VCI included in the kit.
  • OE-level bi-directional coding on 36 service functions across 150+ vehicle makes — including adaptive resets, throttle relearn, DPF regeneration, injector coding, transmission adaptation, BMS / battery registration, and EPB service.
  • Full key programming + IMMO — read & write transponder data, add or erase keys, and read PIN / CS where the vehicle platform supports it. For all-key-lost flows on protected late-model BMW or Mercedes, pair with the Autel XP400 Pro key programmer (sold separately).
  • Topology mapping, online account login, VAG guided function, component matching, power balance, refresh hidden function, and VIN / license plate scan.
  • Expansion ready — connect the Autel MV108 for endoscope inspection and the BT506 for battery and starting / charging system testing.
  • MaxiSys OS 10 on Qualcomm 660 octa-core processor, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2, 15,000 mAh battery (~14 hr operation).

Who is this for?

This scanner is built for three professional buyers:

  1. Independent workshops that need OE-level diagnostic and coding coverage on most makes without paying for the full MS908S Pro II Elite II.
  2. Locksmiths and mobile auto-key specialists that need IMMO and key programming alongside diagnostics on a single tablet.
  3. Specialist remap, EV, and performance workshops that need J2534 pass-thru to flash factory ECUs from manufacturer portals.

If you're shopping for a hobbyist scanner under NZ$1,000, see the Autel MaxiAP AP200 or the Autel MaxiCOM MK808S — both cover OBD2 and basic bi-directional service functions at a fraction of the MK908 Pro II's price.

MK908 Pro II vs MK908P vs MS908S Pro II — what's actually different?

The MK908 Pro II is positioned by Autel as the "No-IP" variant of the MS908S Pro II Elite II. The diagnostic and coding hardware is the same; the difference comes down to the IP (Intelligent Programming) module and the tablet form factor.

One-line summary: the MK908 Pro II is the MS908S Pro II's diagnostic and coding capability on the same hardware platform, with the IP module removed and a smaller 10.1″ tablet. If you don't reprogram BMW or Mercedes keys through the IP module, you don't need to pay the MS908S Pro II premium.

FairTools technician notes

— Hands-on observations from FairTools workshop bench testing, ahead of listing this unit.

The J2534 pass-thru on the MaxiFlash VCI initialises against Toyota TIS and Subaru STIS without needing an extra adapter. For VAG (VW / Audi / Skoda), guided function is available, but you still need a separate dealer subscription for FRF flash files — the scanner is the pipe, not the file source.

One spec the data sheet glosses over: the 10.1″ screen is noticeably faster than the original MK908P because of the 4 GB RAM upgrade and the Qualcomm 660 chipset. If you previously found the MK908P sluggish on the boot-and-scan-multiple-systems workflow, the Pro II is the unit you actually wanted.

If you'll be doing all-key-lost on protected platforms (late-model BMW or Mercedes), add the Autel XP400 Pro programmer. The MK908 Pro II handles the diagnostic and IMMO read; the XP400 Pro handles the key write.

What it's not for: if your shop's primary workflow is BMW / Mercedes key cloning at the dealer level, you need the full MS908S Pro II Elite II with the IP module, not this unit.

Warranty, support, and NZ delivery

  • 12-month FairTools warranty on hardware (parts and labour)
  • Free overnight shipping to NZ main centres
  • NZ-based phone support during business hours
  • Updates: 1-year free update subscription included with the unit; renewable from Autel directly at approximately AU$595 / year after that. The scanner remains fully functional without renewing — it simply stops receiving new vehicle support and feature updates.

Sourcing disclosure. This unit is supplied through Autel's standard international production line — the same hardware Autel ships to authorised resellers in Australia, the UK, and the US. Software is the international (non-IP) firmware suitable for the New Zealand vehicle parc. Keep the serial number for any support claim — Autel honours warranty on serial number, not on resellers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the MK908 Pro II the same as the MS908S Pro II?

Same diagnostic and coding hardware platform. The MS908S Pro II Elite II adds the IP (Intelligent Programming) module for protected-key writing on BMW and Mercedes; the MK908 Pro II does not include the IP module. Everything else — J2534 pass-thru, OE coding, bi-directional active test, 36 service functions on 150 vehicle makes — is identical.

Can the MK908 Pro II program keys?

Yes — it can read and write transponder data, add or erase keys, and read PIN / CS on supported vehicle platforms. For all-key-lost flows on protected late-model BMW or Mercedes, you'll need to pair it with the Autel XP400 Pro key programmer, sold separately. The MK908 Pro II handles the diagnostic and IMMO read; the XP400 Pro handles the key write.

What's the difference between the MK908 Pro II and the original MK908P?

The Pro II runs Android 10 with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage on a Qualcomm 660 processor, compared to Android 7 and 2 / 64 GB on the original MK908P. Topology mapping, online account login, and full VAG guided function are added. The price stayed similar; the spec lifted. If you found the original MK908P sluggish when scanning multiple systems, the Pro II is faster on the same workflow.

Does it work on European cars?

Yes — full OE-level coverage on VW / Audi / Skoda / SEAT (VAG), BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Porsche, Land Rover, Jaguar, Fiat, Renault, Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, and Saab. VAG guided function is included. For Renault, the unit supports SGW (Security Gateway) — no extra adapter required.

Can I do J2534 reprogramming on my own with this?

Yes — the MK908 Pro II is J2534-1 / J2534-2 / DoIP / CAN FD certified pass-thru hardware. However, you'll also need a separate paid subscription to the vehicle manufacturer's diagnostic portal (Toyota TIS, Subaru STIS, GM SPS2, Ford IDS, Honda i-HDS, BMW ISTA, Mercedes Xentry, and so on) to download the actual FRF / cal files. The scanner is the pipe; the OEM portal is the file source.

Is firmware updating free?

The first year of OS and coverage updates is included with the unit. After that, Autel charges approximately AU$595 / year for continued updates. The scanner remains fully functional without renewing — it just stops getting new vehicle support and feature updates. Many of our workshop customers renew every second year rather than annually.
